Enter a public URL and ToolTrace fetches the page, including its HTML source and HTTP response headers. The detector scans multiple signal sources to identify technologies:

  • HTTP headers reveal web servers (Nginx, Apache), CDN providers (Cloudflare, Fastly), hosting platforms (Vercel, Netlify), and runtime environments (PHP, ASP.NET, Express).
  • Meta generator tags identify CMS platforms like WordPress, Shopify, Ghost, Hugo, Drupal, and Joomla, often with version numbers.
  • Script and stylesheet URLs point to analytics services, JavaScript frameworks, CSS libraries, marketing tools, and third-party integrations.
  • HTML patterns and DOM structure contain framework-specific attributes, class naming conventions, and data attributes that indicate which front-end technologies are in use.
  • Cookies set by the server can identify session management frameworks, e-commerce platforms, and authentication systems.

Each detection includes a confidence level and specific evidence explaining why the technology was identified. The free tool performs a static fetch of the target URL. For sites that rely heavily on JavaScript rendering, the API supports browser-based rendering at a higher credit cost.

Can this detect every technology on a website?

No detection tool covers every possible technology. This detector recognizes 90+ commonly used technologies. If a technology is loaded entirely through JavaScript or uses non-standard patterns, it may not appear in a static scan. The API's browser rendering mode can detect additional client-side technologies.

Is this tool free?

How accurate is the detection?

Each detection includes a confidence indicator. Technologies matched by multiple signals (meta tags and scripts and headers) are marked as high confidence. Technologies matched by a single pattern are marked as likely. False positives are minimized by requiring specific, non-generic patterns for each technology.

Can I detect the CMS of any website?

Most CMS platforms leave identifiable patterns in the HTML source or HTTP headers. WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Drupal, and many others are reliably detected. Some headless CMS setups may not leave visible frontend signatures.
